Top Tips For Better Home Security

15 June 2018

It can be easy to get complacent about your home security, but it’s important that you regularly review it to make sure that your property is always safe when you’re out and about.

The Lancashire Evening Post recently spoke to Anthony Neary, managing director of safe.co.uk, about what steps you can take to make sure your home is as secure and safe as possible.

One thing you should consider is replacing any old doors with newer, more secure options. Fitting Rockdoors in Liverpool, which are particularly hard wearing and secure, is just one thing to consider.

Mr Neary’s first piece of advice was to make sure that your home “looks loved”. He explained that making it look like there’s regularly someone at home means it’s less likely that thieves will risk trying to break in.

Checking your locks is another essential thing to do. If you’re not sure whether the locks on your home are up to scratch, do some research into different types of locks. Your front door should always have two locks - if you’re adding a new one check that it complies with British Standard BS3621.

Keeping your documents neatly filed may seem like an admin task, but Mr Neary explained that it can also improve your home security. Should someone break into your property, this means it’s less likely they’ll steal your personal information and use it for fraudulent purposes.

According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics, an average of two in 100 households in the UK were victims of domestic burglary in the year ending March 2017.
